Weekend visit to Muir Woods - Mill Valley,CA
In the arms of mother nature, good laughter with dear friends, and sunshine,my weekend was sorted with such an amazing day.It was a sudden plan that gave us great opportunity to dive into the beauty of Muir Woods National monument.
The main attraction of the Muir Woods is the redwood trees (sequoia sempervirens) which are known for their height and relates to giant sequoia of the Sierra Nevada. It is really amazing to see such huge trees covering the sky in between you are able to see sunlight peeking in (absolutely gorgeous). Most of the redwood in Muir Woods National monument are 500-800 years old and their maximum height upto 258 feet. Further north these trees can reach upto 379feet.

A very interesting and astonishing fact about these redwood
trees are they can live upto 2200 years and their average age is between
600-800 years. Muir Woods also hold a rich variety of other plant life as well.
Some of which include coast live, oaks, cedar, junipers, willows, and many
others
Apart from flora and fauna, the woods also have a presence
of wildlife. Some of which include snakes, birds, squirrels, birds, and many
more.
See below to get detailed information about park hours and
activities:
Muir Woods open all year, no reservations required. The
park is open 8:00 am to sunset, the visitor center closes 30 mins before sunset,
you can find gift shops and a café here.
Muir Beach and Stinson beach are located nearby and are also
closed after sunset. The entrance fees for the park is $10 for people 16 years
and older. For food and beverage options are available at the cafe and bootjack spot can be utilized for picnic purposes.Muir Wood are a day use area and hence camping is not permitted.
Another key aspect to be kept mind is the parking.Muir Wood has extremely limited parking and significant delay can be caused due to rush. The parking lots fill up between 9:00-10:00 am or even earlier in the summer time. Considering such a scenario,we decided to go there late but still struggled to find a spot, literally. Just keep an eye on people leaving and grab a spot if you can.
Hope you liked my experience, thanks for stopping by.For more detailed Muir Woods history visit here.
